The Symposium for Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), Africa Faith & Justice Network (AFJN), Africa Europe Faith & Justice Network (AEFJN) and the International Alliance of Catholic Development Agencies (CIDSE) invite you to a Conference on Land Grabbing and Just Governance in Africa from November 22 – 26, 2015 at the Jumuia Conference Center, Nairobi, Kenya.
Land grabbing for various purposes has been fingered as a major contributor to the endemic poverty & hunger, endless conflicts, forest and environmental destruction, and forced migration in Africa. This conference will bring together Church leaders, Civil Society Organizations, Justice and Peace leaders, Faith based organizations and land activist across the globe to map out practical strategies for combating this issue so that the daughters and sons of Africa will live a more dignified life.
Participation in the conference is free of charge; however, participants are required to defray the cost of their room and feeding at the conference center at the subsidized price of $300 or equivalent in Kenyan shillings. More subsidies would be available to African participants and others who really need it.
There will be simultaneous translations in English, French and Portuguese. Provisional program is attached and you will receive the final program as soon as it is ready. Meanwhile, personal invitation letters will be provided for those who need visa to enter Kenya. Please click here and follow the link for your registration.
Please plan to attend this important Conference. Providentially, the Holy Father is coming to Nairobi at the time of the Conference. Our gathering to highlight the impact of land grab on communities and on the environment not only highlights an important justice issue, but addresses also a pastoral and theological issue in regard to our being entrusted with the mandate to care for God’s creation.
